Researchers assessed the efficacy of CLT symptom management

Researchers analyzed the capabilities of CLT (Contrastive Latent Training) in tasks of manipulating internal states of neural networks. During the experiment, the ability of the manifold steering method to change the behavior of the model through influence on the feature space was tested.

The results showed that although CLT features support control, they generate significantly weaker signals compared to manipulations at the level of "raw" neural activations. In particular, when trying to extract or modify a specific signal, such as "day of the week", the model demonstrated only partial effectiveness. This indicates that the current representations in the CLT space contain only fragmentary data about the target concepts.

The experiment confirmed that using CLT features for precise control over generation requires refinement of interpretability mechanisms. In contrast to direct influence on activations, where the control signal remains pronounced, in the CLT space there is a significant loss of intensity of the control effect. These findings are important for understanding how training methods affect the structuring of knowledge within the hidden layers of architectures.

The study highlights the gap between the theoretical possibility of controlling features and their practical applicability in real tasks. The obtained metrics indicate the need to search for more robust ways of encoding information, which would allow preserving the integrity of signals when performing operations in the latent space.
