Apple has tightened age restrictions in the App Store for AI companions

Apple has introduced new rules for the App Store catalog regarding apps with virtual companions. The changes affect categories of services that offer users romantic or sexual content.

According to the platform's updated policy, all apps in the AI companion genre and dating services containing relevant interaction elements are now subject to a mandatory 18+ age rating. The new requirements are intended to restrict access for underage audiences to such products on mobile devices within the ecosystem.

Developers of relevant software products will need to promptly update their app metadata in the store and undergo re-moderation to comply with the age rating. Violation of the new regulations may lead to the removal of services from the company's official catalog.
