Nexus Mods introduces mandatory AI content labeling

The largest platform for game modifications Nexus Mods has announced the introduction of mandatory disclosure for the use of generative models in mod creation. Now, authors must specify whether artificial intelligence tools were used in the development of their work when uploading new files.
The platform's administration explained that this decision was driven by the need to ensure transparency for the community. The official statement emphasizes that users have the right to know whether content is the result of manual labor or was generated by neural networks. The new rules apply to all categories of modifications, including textures, models, voice acting, and software scripts.
In addition to mandatory labeling, the platform plans to implement tools for content filtering. This will allow players to choose for themselves whether they want to see AI-generated mods in their games or prefer exclusively "traditional" content. Such a policy is aimed at reducing conflicts within the community and protecting the copyrights of original asset creators.
For mod developers, this means they need to review the process of publishing their work on Nexus Mods. Implementing a tagging system will simplify moderation and allow the platform to better control the quality and origin of uploaded files amid the growing popularity of generative tools in game development.
