AWS was unable to restore some of the data after the attack on the data centers
Company Amazon Web Services has officially acknowledged the impossibility of restoring some of the data stored in its Middle Eastern data centers that were affected by a recent attack. The incident affected the physical infrastructure, resulting in the loss of access to segments of user information.
Despite the declared reliability standards, including a 11 nines (99.999999999%) data durability metric, the company's technical specialists encountered critical equipment damage. Internal backup protocols proved insufficient for fully restoring the affected arrays, raising questions among clients about security guarantees in regional presence zones.
The situation raises questions about the resilience of cloud architectures to high-intensity physical threats. In discussions of the incident, experts note that even with distributed storage systems, the direct destruction of hardware nodes can lead to irreversible losses if geo-replication was not configured at the interregional level.
This case forces corporate users to reconsider their disaster recovery strategies. AWS will have to conduct a security audit of its facilities in the region and review the SLA for clients whose data critically depends on the physical integrity of specific data centers.
