Chinese intelligence attempted to recruit a top executive for Nvidia

US intelligence services have recorded an attempt by Chinese agents to recruit Alice Huang, a top executive at Megaspeed. According to The New York Times, the operation was overseen by the PRC's Ministry of State Security.
The goal of the recruitment was to obtain classified information about American semiconductors for artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the agents planned to use the employee to lobby for the supply of advanced accelerators to the Chinese market, bypassing current export restrictions.
The intelligence services also focused on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, around whom a network was being built to collect data on logistics and equipment supply plans. The incident highlights the increased geopolitical tension surrounding supply chains for hardware used in generative models.
