The Servo team reported on the results of a year of sponsored development

September 17, 2026

The Servo project has summed up the results of the first year of work after receiving targeted funding. During the reporting period, the team focused on stabilizing the codebase and expanding the composition of active contributors to support the browser engine.

Over the past 12 months, developers have processed and closed 1150 pull requests aimed at fixing critical bugs and optimizing performance. As part of the program to decentralize project management, 8 new maintainers were appointed, who received the rights to make changes to key system modules.

Particular attention was paid to the testing infrastructure: the team carried out large-scale work to stabilize flaky tests that previously led to false positives in CI/CD pipelines. This allowed reducing the time it takes to pass checks and increasing the overall reliability of the engine build on various operating systems.

Current activity indicators confirm the project's transition to a more intensive update cycle. Stabilizing development processes is the foundation for further integration of new web standards and support for modern APIs, which is critical for using the engine in specialized AI tools and lightweight browser environments.
