Minitab accused Google of stealing code for the Artemis project
September 17, 2026

Developers of the Minitap startup stated that Google improperly used their intellectual property, integrating fragments of Minitap's open code into their project Artemis, designed to manage mobile devices using AI agents. According to the published data, the corporation transferred identical implementations of device connection mechanisms and specific instructions for the Hopper agent into the Artemis codebase. Additionally, test examples identical to those previously published by Minitap specialists to demonstrate the operation of their systems were found in the repository. Representatives of the startup recorded the fact of deleting the original authors' names from the commit history through a force push operation, which led to a complete loss of attribution in the public repository, violating standard practices for working with open software and license agreements. The incident caused a wide resonance in the professional community, with discussions actively being held on the Lobste.rs platform. So far, Google has not officially commented on the plagiarism allegations and has not provided explanations regarding the origin of the disputed code fragments in their project. The situation highlights the growing risks for small AI companies when interacting with large technology corporations, raising questions about the transparency of development processes in large AI laboratories that use open-source community developments to create their own proprietary solutions.
