GitLab changes rate limits for users

Company GitLab announced an update to the rate limit policy for its cloud platform. The new rules will come into effect on October 19, 2026, and will affect all service users.
The main change concerns unauthorized requests: their number is now limited to 60 requests per hour. Previously, the limits were less stringent, allowing more operations to be performed without authentication. Developers emphasize that to access higher quotas, users need to use personal access tokens or other authentication methods.
The new limits will directly depend on the chosen subscription tariff plan. Users of paid levels will receive extended capabilities for the number of requests per minute, while the free level (Free tier) will be limited to basic values. These measures are aimed at ensuring the stability of the infrastructure and protecting the service from excessive load.
The changes are designed to standardize the load on the API and prevent abuse by automated scripts. Users using CI/CD pipelines or external integrations are recommended to check their authentication settings in advance to avoid interrupting service operation after the updates take effect.
