At the Hot Chips 2026 conference they presented the server processors Diamond Rapids

At the Hot Chips 2026 conference, developers of server equipment announced new solutions for high-performance computing, with the key event being the presentation of Diamond Rapids processors, which feature an architecture with 256 cores on a single crystal.
The new chips are designed to work in modern data centers, where high computing density is required for training and inference of neural networks, and in addition to computing power, manufacturers have introduced updated memory standards that allow combining the functions of RAM and permanent storage into a single data hierarchy.
As part of the event, achievements in the field of RISC-V architecture were also demonstrated, which is beginning to be actively introduced into the server segment, with new controllers for storage systems providing bandwidth that exceeds the previous generation's indicators by 45% while reducing power consumption by 15%.
In parallel, at the Flash Memory Summit, new-type SSD storage devices using the PCIe 7.0 interface were presented, allowing data transfer speeds of up to 60 GB/s, which is critical for preventing GPU downtime when loading huge arrays of training data.
Large-scale changes in hardware are aimed at eliminating "bottlenecks" in AI infrastructure, with the transition to 256-core processors and the introduction of high-speed storage allowing for a significant reduction in model preparation time and an increase in the overall efficiency of server cluster operation.
