October 28, 2026

Google has opened its Android Studio development environment to third-party artificial intelligence. The new feature is called "Bring Your Own Agent".
The updated environment now supports over 40 different coding agents. Among them are solutions such as Anthropic's Claude Agent and OpenAI's Codex.
Along with the integration, the company introduced new command-line tools. According to the developers, they help agents handle UI tasks 77% faster.
Using the new tools also allows for up to three times fewer tokens to be consumed when performing routine operations. The Android development process is gradually shifting toward an agent-oriented approach.
