Fujifilm to increase magnetic tape production fivefold

Fujifilm has announced plans to increase its production of magnetic data storage tapes fivefold. This large-scale expansion is driven by a sharp rise in demand for archival storage amid the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Modern data centers and AI developers are facing the need for long-term storage of massive volumes of training datasets, backups, and synthetic data. Magnetic tape remains in high demand due to its low storage costs and enhanced security, provided by complete isolation from the network in offline mode.
The new investments are aimed at upgrading production lines and increasing the output of high-capacity media. These measures will help meet the industry's growing need for reliable infrastructure for the long-term preservation of large data arrays.
