OpenAI found nearly a thousand vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel using AI
November 4, 2026
The company OpenAI has developed an autonomous AI-based pipeline that discovered, verified, and generated fixes for 948 local privilege escalation vulnerabilities.
The created system automates the search for critical defects in the Linux operating system kernel code. The artificial intelligence independently completes the full cycle from vulnerability detection to writing a working patch without human intervention.
The results demonstrate the ability of modern autonomous agents to work effectively with complex low-level codebases. Using such systems can significantly accelerate the remediation of vulnerabilities in large open-source projects and strengthen the overall security of server infrastructure.
