Replit has updated its sandbox engine based on microVMs

The company Replit has completely rewritten its sandbox engine, migrating its infrastructure to micro-virtual machines (microVMs) and Cloud Hypervisor. The new architecture is designed to improve security and isolation levels for autonomous AI agents executing user code.
During the large-scale migration, the company successfully transferred hundreds of millions of projects without any loss of user data. The transition to microVMs allows for hardware-level isolation of each agent session, preventing potential security risks when executing dynamically generated scripts.
The updated infrastructure reduces vulnerability risks in development environments, which is critical for the full-scale deployment of autonomous software agents. Engineers and platform developers heavily utilizing AI coding will be able to scale automated workflows more securely.
