Startup Discovered Materials has allocated $1 million for AI-related materials science challenges

Startup Discovered Materials, a participant in the Y Combinator accelerator, has announced the launch of a grant program to solve five unsolved problems in materials science. The company specializes in using neural networks to discover new materials needed for semiconductor manufacturing.
The total prize fund for the initiative is $1 million. For solving each of the five proposed scientific problems, the startup will pay a reward of $200,000. Participation terms and a detailed list of tasks are published on the company's official website.
The main goal of the project is to accelerate the development of new compounds that can be used in modern chip architecture. Using AI in this field allows for reducing the time spent on screening chemical combinations, which would require years of laboratory testing using traditional methods.
For researchers and developers of AI models in the field of materials chemistry, this is an opportunity to receive direct funding for applied results. Successfully solving at least one of these problems could significantly impact the speed of creating new hardware components, which is critical for the current pace of computing power development.
