Vault Audit AI has been renamed to Veynrel with MCP support
September 16, 2026

Developers of the Vault Audit AI plugin for Obsidian announced a major update and rebranding of the project to Veynrel. The tool has moved from a simple plugin format to an architecture divided into two repositories: the main plugin and a separate Companion for data security management. The key innovation is the support for the MCP (Model Context Protocol) protocol, which allows external AI clients to interact with the user's notes. Developers have introduced a change proposals system that prohibits agents from directly editing files in Vault. Instead, the system creates change proposals that the user must manually confirm, eliminating the risk of uncontrolled data overwrite. The Veynrel architecture now includes a self-hosted Companion that acts as an intermediary between AI models and the local knowledge base. This solution ensures the isolation of the file system from direct access by LLM. The project is aimed at users who integrate AI agents into their workflow but require strict control over the integrity of their notes. The transition to the new MCP interaction model allows any compatible AI tools to be connected to Obsidian without the need for specific integrations. The division into two repositories simplifies the updating of audit and security logic independently of the interface of the note editor itself.
