Developers introduced GrassLobster for automating parametric design

September 18, 2026

The team at GrassLobster has released a prototype of a tool that connects the Rhino/Grasshopper design environment with external AI agents. The system allows users to describe architectural ideas in natural language, after which the agent automatically generates and iteratively refines parametric geometry algorithms.

The core of the work is based on integration with external code agents, such as GPT-6 Astra. The system takes over the routine part of writing scripts, translating text requests into nodes and connections of visual programming. This reduces the time it takes to create complex geometric structures that require multiple manual parameter adjustments in the standard Grasshopper interface.

The tool is aimed at architects and designers who use a parametric approach in design. The user sets high-level parameters, and the agent performs iterative optimization of the shape based on the given constraints. The prototype is already available for testing, and a discussion of the technical aspects of the implementation is being held in the Hacker News community.

The introduction of such agents changes the process of working with CAD systems, shifting the focus from manual graph construction to managing generation logic through prompts. In the current version, the solution automates the creation of complex geometric dependencies that previously required deep programming skills in C# or Python within the Rhino environment.
