WeBuyBricks has launched an AI system for the automatic sorting of Lego parts
Company WeBuyBricks introduced in Lancashire an automated installation Brick-O-Matic designed for sorting mixed sets of Lego constructor. The system uses computer vision to identify and distribute parts, allowing reuse of millions of elements that were previously sent to landfills.
The installation is equipped with high-resolution cameras and specialized software that recognizes the shape, color, and type of each part in real-time. The automation process eliminates manual labor when dismantling large batches of secondary raw materials, ensuring high accuracy of sorting even with damaged or rare components.
The technology is aimed at reducing the environmental impact associated with plastic production. According to the developers, the use of Brick-O-Matic allows recycling of up to several tons of parts per month, returning them to the cycle of secondary consumption. This is the first such project in the UK, scalable for the needs of large recycling centers.
The implementation of such systems changes the approach to waste management in the toy industry. Automation of the sorting process makes it economically viable to restore sets that were previously considered unprofitable for manual processing, contributing to the development of a circular economy for plastic products.
