Developers have introduced the tiling window manager Rift for macOS

Developer acsandmann has released Rift — a new tiling window manager designed to automate workspace management in the macOS operating system. The project is in the early stages of active development and has already attracted the attention of the community, gaining 2.3 thousand stars on GitHub.
The tool implements automatic window placement on a grid, allowing users to optimize work with multiple open applications without manually changing their sizes. Currently, there are 28 open issues in the project repository, which the community is working on to stabilize the functionality and fix interface rendering errors.
The software is written with consideration of the macOS API specifics, ensuring integration with the system window compositor. The project's source code is available for public audit and modification, allowing users to customize tiling rules for their tasks. Development is carried out in an open format, which facilitates quick bug fixes and addition of new features.
The emergence of such solutions reflects the demand from macOS users for more flexible interface management tools, similar to those traditionally used in Linux distributions with window managers like i3 or Sway. Rift offers an alternative approach to organizing the desktop, focused on increasing productivity by minimizing mouse actions when switching between active windows.
