Developers introduced the gzipt tool for generating text through compression
The developer introduced gzipt — a tool that uses the DEFLATE compression algorithm to generate text sequences. The program works without classical training of neural networks, relying on the principles of information theory.
The principle of gzipt operation is to evaluate the probability of text continuation through its compression ratio. The tool uses beam search to select the most likely tokens that provide the minimum size of the final file when compressed with the gzip algorithm. The better a sequence is compressed in the context of a given corpus, the higher its rating in the model.
During experiments, the system was tested on a corpus of William Shakespeare's texts. The tool demonstrates the ability to predict characters based solely on statistical patterns identified during data compression. This allows generating text that preserves the stylistic features of the original dataset without using neural network weights.
The project implementation is available for analysis and reproduction in open access. The method shows an alternative approach to language modeling, where instead of training model parameters, the computational power of data compression algorithms is used to determine the predictive probability of the next element in a sequence.
